Barbara wrote:

Maylee has always stood out among the other students. She was involved with student council, always took initiative to lead activities and always did the right things when nobody was watching. The students who were sitting by themselves in the lunchroom were joined by Maylee. She wasn't concerned about popularity. She would seek out the handicapped students and spend time with them. Her actions have always been led by her heart. Her parents are involved in a group called "Be the Gift," an organization in Minden that helps single mothers. On many occasions, Maylee would voluntarily take care of the children when moms needed a break. As her school counselor, I could always rely on Maylee to help others...she's just so natural at it. She is a good listener, confidential but when someone has in a personal crisis, she would make sure the student (s) would get the help they needed. Not only is she an outstanding human being, but she's also a scholar, athlete, and has been very successful in the Fine Arts. Every "team“ Maylee is involved with; she is the quiet leader who leads by example. People feel like they can be themselves around her - she's transparent and authentic. She is respected by her peers and faculty at Minden High School. I feel very honored and blessed to have taught a student like Maylee. She always has a smile on her face and is certainly someone who is trustworthy, honest and
humble.

Sue said this of Maylee:

Maylee has always had a giving heart and understands what selfless service means to others. She has done so many things in our community with over 200 hours of community service in high school as listed below. Be the Gift-help with grocery distribution, yard clean up, home repairs (this organization helps those in need in our community) Bethany Lutheran Church Bible School leader Youth basketball camp assistant Youth volleyball camp assistant Volunteered to babysit some kids every day after school, 6-7 PM Mentoring the Hansen kids as their mom is deployed overseas Volunteers through National Honor Society, Circle of Friends, Sports I always knew that if I gave her a task to do for our MS Student Council that it would be completed and always with a smile. Maylee helped with our Veterans Day program, helped with different activities at Bethany Home, and the food drive for the local Food Pantry for Kearney County just to mention a few volunteer activities that she took part in when she was in the Middle School. She was good to everyone she met and always had a special place in her heart for those that needed the help the most. I would highly recommend her for this award, and it is an honor to endorse her as a worthy candidate for McKenna's Rae of Hope.
